RDR2 PS5: Is it too Late for PS5, Series X/S Version

Recently, the release of RDR2 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version has become a hot topic of discussion among gamers worldwide. The remastered version of Red Dead Redemption has been officially announced for PlayStation 4, PS5 through backward compatibility, and Nintendo Switch. This means that the classic wild west action-adventure game will no longer be limited to the old Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles. Instead, it will be available to a whole new generation of players, along with its DLC chapter, Undead Nightmares.

However, Rockstar Games has not yet said anything about a current gen consoles version of Red Dead Redemption 2. While the sequel is technically playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, it’s essentially the same as the older PS4 and Xbox One version running in backward compatibility mode. Players are eagerly waiting for a fully optimized version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the latest consoles.

Is RDR2 PS5 version confirmed?

Rockstar Games hasn’t announced a dedicated PS5 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 yet. While the game doesn’t have a dedicated Xbox Series X/S version, it uses Xbox’s Smart Delivery feature, which makes it look better with native 4K support. Unfortunately, the PS5’s backward compatibility version of the game lacks this native 4K support, and it can look a bit blurry on large screens.

The PS5 has the power to make the game run smoothly at 60fps with a clear 1440p resolution or at 30-40fps in 4K. Even if the game’s visuals are still impressive, not having a native 4K option on the PlayStation 5 feels like a compromise.

Recently, a Twitter user named “illusion” showed that the game can run smoothly at 60fps on the PS5 hardware. Even though the user used an unofficial patch to make it happen, this test shows the PS5’s capability to provide a consistent 60fps gaming experience on upscaled 4K resolution.

Rockstar Games managed to release a dedicated current-gen version of their highly profitable game, Grand Theft Auto V, which uses the same game engine as Red Dead Redemption 2. So, theoretically, it shouldn’t be too difficult for the studio to create a dedicated RDR2 PS5 version.

The best time for Rockstar to release Red Dead Redemption 2 on modern consoles would have been in 2020 when those consoles were launching. However, Rockstar didn’t take that opportunity. There were some big leaks in May 2022 suggesting that they were planning to make these ports, but later, it was said that they canceled the work on bringing Red Dead 2 to the  current gen consoles.

Apart from Rockstar needing their resources for other projects, the truth is that there isn’t as much excitement for RDR2 PS5 upgrade anymore. A few years ago, people would have been really excited about them, but now, many players have already spent a lot of time playing the game. This means that the idea of a current-gen version of the game isn’t as appealing as it once was.

There was a time when new ports for Red Dead Redemption 2 would have been eagerly embraced by a big part of the gaming community. However, it’s clear that this opportunity has now passed. As the game gets older and as we move further into the current console era, the demand for these ports has diminished.

It makes more sense for Rockstar to concentrate on bigger projects. Even though there are still rumors about these ports, if they were to be released now, many fans of Red Dead Redemption 2 wouldn’t be interested anymore. We’ll need to wait and see what Rockstar Games has planned for the gaming community in the future.

As usual, we’ll keep you informed about any updates regarding the rdr2 ps5 upgrade. So, stay tuned! And please share your thoughts in the comments below!
