The Xbox boss, Phil Spencer, has confirmed that Call of Duty – along with Diablo and Overwatch – will eventually be added to Game Pass, but it’ll still be released on PlayStation on the same day. Call of Duty Xbox Game Pass

Microsoft confirmed in a blog post that Activision Blizzard’s library of games, including Call of Duty and Diablo, will be available on Xbox Game Pass once the acquisition is complete.

As part of Xbox’s goal of bringing games to as many people as possible, Spencer reaffirmed alongside the Game Pass news that Call of Duty would arrive on PlayStation on the same day it launches elsewhere.

“We intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games – including Overwatch, Diablo and Call of Duty – available in Game Pass and to grow those gaming communities,” Spencer said in the blog post. “By delivering even more value to players, we hope to continue growing Game Pass, extending its appeal to mobile phones and any connected device.”

Activision Blizzard’s games may not arrive on Game Pass for some time, and Spencer did not specify when or which titles would be added.

It is probable that future iterations of these Activision Blizzard franchises will be included in Game Pass on day one, as with other Xbox first party titles like Forza and Halo. Diablo 4 is due next year, meaning they might have been released before the acquisition deal goes through for Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Activision Blizzard’s acquisition by Xbox was announced in January, but it has since been scrutinized by several consumer boards, including the UK government’s Competition and Markets Authority, although Spencer recently said he felt “good” about its progress.
